Our guided tours of the focal point of this spectacular natural attraction begin just outside the trading post. Take a leisurely stroll along the bluff of Beaver Lake to “Eagle Point”, our 40 foot high lookout over our private cove. Following the ancient path down the hill, as the knowledgeable guide weaves the history of War Eagle, and how Beaver Lake came to be. The spectacular natural entrance of War Eagle Cavern sits in a boxed canyon at the end of Devils’s Gap. The cavern’s waters run from deep inside the mountain and pour into Beaver Lake. Depending on the rainfall in this area of the Ozark Mountains the waters may come in great torrents or sometimes in calm trickles. Following the easy, wide open pathways (NO STAIRS INCLUDED!) along the edges of the stream that flows throughout the cavern, our courteous guide lead the way. The path on this breathtaking adventure will take visitors throughout huge rooms. The guide will explain the incredible “domes” and other formations located in the beautiful War Eagle Cavern. Sounds of the historical past can almost be audibly heard as the stories of warriors, draft-dodgers, robbers, moonshiners, squatters and partiers are told in great depth by these well informed story-teller guides! With the amazing Arkansas cavern as a background it is easy to imagination exactly what it might have been like before civilization came to this place known as War Eagle Cavern on Beaver Lake!
The half-mile tour of this historical attraction climaxes with an incredible view of the waterfall in the newly expanded rimstone dam room. The extraordinary excavation project that was completed in 2013 is responsible for doubling the size of the rimstone dam room and providing a newly created wide cement walkway that allows explorers of all ages to stroll along the flowing underground stream. Returning visitors to the cavern will be amazed to see what was once a small crawl way now standing before them as a 7 ft. high Crystal Hallway leading them straight to Mirror Lake. The entire entertaining, educational experience is enhanced by the 12 volt LED underground lighting system.
The amazing guided tours at War Eagle Cavern are approximately one hour of walking, well actually strolling and they are approximately one mile of uninterrupted natural beauty in length. The cavern stays at a constant temperature of 58 degrees and that added to the wide, stroller-friendly, pet friendly and partially handicap accessible pathway make it the perfect adventure for almost everyone. Don’t worry just because the guided tour is over does not mean the fun has ended. The stroll back to the gift shop includes feeding the fish at the boat dock and exploring the woods along the short nature paths, and glorious scenic views in a secluded park-like setting. Do not forget your camera!!!!!
